Hello and welcome to A Newsletter! I’m so pleased you’re here, and thank you for reading. If you’ve found your way over by some miracle but are not yet subscribed, here, let me help you with that:
Hello and Happy Daylight Savings week. It’ll stay light past 7pm until September 24th, and that’s great news for my seasonal depression.
Last fall I launched a podcast “for fun.” Quotation marks because well, it turned into a lot of work lol, but of course when you love what you do do you ever really work a day in your life? (you do). The premise is simple: you ask a question and I give you advice, along with a rotating guest who is equally qualified to give you advice (which is to say, qualified as two strangers could be– we’re doing our best).
This burning desire to join the chorus of podcasts in 2023 was born from the Instagram Q+A’s I used to do a lot more of, which then turned into a Chef’s Kiss Q+A column here on this newsletter. While answering those questions exclusively online is fun, I realized it might be a lot more fun to actually talk to you (talk with you?). And I was right! It is more fun.
It’s especially fun to talk about things that aren’t just about food (I contain multitudes)– there’s been advice about bad neighbors, making new friends in a new city, when to tell your friend they should break up and yes, advice about chicken breast because I still do love to talk about food. While sometimes a question is about how to cook for picky adults, the answer lies somewhere in between “make pasta” and “are you a people pleaser and is that really serving you?” My inspiration comes from my long standing love of giving my opinion when nobody asked for it, champion of romance Delilah and somebody’s dad’s favorite show, Car Talk. I may not always have the answer, but I do love to gab, and fortunately that’s all you need to host a podcast.
You can listen to season 1 here, here, (watch here) or wherever you get your podcasts, really. To those of you who have already listened, thank you! And for those who have written in or left a voicemail– EXTRA thank you. If you would like to CHAT with me or otherwise have your question answered, here’s how it works:
You can write in a question here, or call and leave a voicemail at (856) 502-4816.
The written form questions tend to be the ones we select for a deeper dive (me + a guest + you on a live, recorded call). Issues with your boss, questioning your impostor syndrome, a delicate situation with a friend and their lover (?).
Voicemail questions are for the Chefs Kiss segment, the Q+A in the second half of the show that tend to skew cooking, restaurant or food related– questions I can answer without needing more intel from you. My favorite place to eat oysters in New York, what’s a good replacement for wine when cooking, should you be washing your herbs (I don’t).
Anyway, all this to say two things:
One, Solicited Advice, Season 2 is coming back in April. We are thrilled!
Two, it is also……coming to you* LIVE for my first, last and only IRL tour of the year. *Denver, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, San Francisco, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Brooklyn
I am especially excited because I’m heading to a few cities I have not gone to in YEARS, or maybe ever, on any tour, book or otherwise. So come with your most vulnerable selves, join me and a guest as we answer your questions* live and in-person, in the raw, in the flesh (and while this isn’t a book tour, there will of course be signed books for sale from local sellers).
*you are encouraged though not required to submit a question at the venue for answering!
Per usual, please leave your comments for best soup and/or place to eat in each city, thank you in advance.
FOR TICKETS: Pre-sale starts tomorrow 3/13 10am local time with the code below (available for all paid subscribers). General On-sale starts Friday 3/15 10am local time. Historically, these events *do* sell out rather quickly, often before general sale, do with that what you will!
All dates and links for tickets for each city available on my website. See you “on the road” mis amis!
