Hi Heidi! I’m not sure what the issue is, but if it’s with subscription or payment, you can email support@substack.com. They’re generally very helpful and responsive!

Shrimp cocktail has probably been my favorite appetizer/meal since I was wee-old! And don't get me started about dating during this f'ing pandemic….

Lol there was a typo on the first round: the show is (if you are not familiar): I MAY DESTROY YOU, not “how I may will destroy you” which was a lol copy and paste error 🙃🥴

Currently watching this show! I’ve loved Michaela since her “Chewing Gum” days — also a fab fab show, albeit much lighter. Serious question: why is shrimp cocktail called...cock...tail? Why are cocktails even cocktails? Why am I repeating this word so much?!

Please tell me more about buying shrimp. I LOVE shrimp, as so many people do, and I worry real, delicious shrimp is basically gone from our sad abused oceans. Where are people buying wild shrimp? Do you buy gulf shrimp? I want all the shrimp deets please.

i am lucky and have a good fish market near me (fish tales on court street in BK), and a good fish market is always my #1 choice to buy seafood no matter where you live- but even whole foods will have occasionally. and yes, gulf shrimp is excellent!

No horseradish?? Also, thank you for telling me deveined shrimp become curly! Was wondering why that happened the last time I made shrimp cocktail.

OK this this exactly what I came here to say... "did you forget the horseradish, Alison?"

I still love horseradish! I love it fresh and in a jar and in a cocktail sauce and also shaved over a salad. HORSERADISH FOREVER!

Thank you for the recommendation, Harissa options are purchased on their way to me in California! Any options OTHER than Amazon for the yuzu kosho??

You are on a roll this week, very amusing column. I was told .....40 years ago!!....to put raw shrimp into cold water and bring to an almost boil....and they’re done. So far, so good. Thanks for the giggles.

The indignity of sharing food with a stranger too soon...spot on, Alison! Couldn't agree more. LOL

Sorry, this is not specific to shrimp cocktail at all, but do you have any general wine recommendations? Would love to hear about your faves! Thanks!

If only my partner wasn't allergic to shrimp, sigh. Shrimp cocktail and a martini sound amazing. Before the pandemic he traveled for work, and if that ever happens again I will have to sneak this in.
