Well, won’t be able to find escarole now! Making it this weekend unless ingredients aren’t findable due to the Roman Run On Ingredients (RROI)!

Next time you make stock try adding a little parmesan rind. A little goes a long way. And while you are at it, add 2-3 lbs of chicken feet. The feet will greatly deepen and improve the flavor. If your favorite grocer doesn’t carry chicken feet, call a local Asian or Hispanic grocer.

The great food writer MFK Fisher, who I believe you’ve reincarnated, wrote of learning how to cook in Dijon, France, long ago as a 22-year old newlywed. The Madame who owned the simple apartment where they first stayed taught her how to cook on a 2-burner camp-style stove top. It served her well. Read “Long Ago in France” for great writing about food. Or, read Alison Roman.

I believe I could take any five things out of my fridge and add broth to it and make a delicious soup. Do I do that? No. You always give me inspiration. Soup is a balm after a day of shoveling snow. It calms after a stressful day. Soup works both hot and cold. It’s something that can be eaten in a bowl or in a cup (in bed). I know I said this before - I made rock soup with water and black pepper and salt as a kid and it was delicious. Good luck on your new house. Soup will definitely help get you through.

We normally love every Alison Roman recipe we've ever tried but sadly we just couldn't get behind this one. My husband called it "lettuce soup." I think if I were to try this again I'd reduce the escarole and maybe add some white beans or orzo or something else to give it more substance. A swing and a miss for us this time but still a AR fan!
