Substitution advice needed! I have long covid which came with parosmia (meaning my brain interprets so many wonderful smells as rotten garbage). Due to my covid parosmia, I can’t eat meat, onions, or garlic. Some citrus is even gross.

How should I think about substituting garlic and onions???? Everything tastes so bland without it and even lemon has a funk.

Go through a good-sized market and write down the foods that most appeal to you. Those ingredients will be the basis for you new cuisine. It will be challenging and exciting. Some of your side effects will pass in time.

Ok to use multiple 4-ish oz pieces of salmon rather than one big piece?

Is the 2 pounds of salmon for 4 or 8 (recipe vs movie)?

Expand full comment

I’d say 4...depends on your crew, but I made this with 1.3kg (2.8lbs) last night for 4 and do not have much left over! It was delicious...

OMG this was buttery delicious. Such a great recipe.

Made this for a fancy Friday night dinner (substituted shallots for the red onion and parsley for the dill because that is what I had on hand), and it was divine! What a nice treat. I am more of a white fish person than a salmon person, and I can see this becoming a staple for salmon preparation. Thank you!

Making this tomorrow. I don’t have sesame seeds either, but thinking I could sprinkle with some Everything bagel spice. Too literal?

I used the sesame seeds and to be honest it didn’t add too much to the dish. I would skip altogether. The dill is where it’s at.

This was AWESOME! Tasted like my favorite lox bagel. I ate it on top of some crunchy olive oil toasted bread. Even went out to a local sea food market to pick up quality salmon for this recipe.

Made this salmon this past weekend for a small dinner party - phenomenal! Even the one in the group that doesn't love salmon was raving! Such a simple preparation and didn't take much time to prepare for such a delicious result! We will make this again and again. Served it with a lemon, garlic and almond couscous - amazing!

Hi! Do you think this would work with tuna?

A long time ago, my sister and I took the train into center city Philadelphia to go to a wildly popular bagel restaurant at the time called The Bagel Nosh. It was around 1980, we were still in high school. They had the most amazing bagels. You lined up at a counter bar and chose anything you could want to add to your sandwich. You also got one side with your bagel.

I ordered (and loved) the shrimp salad on an egg bagel with extra celery and a potato knish on the side.

Her time was up to order and she was nervous. She ordered

Macaroni Salad on a bagel.

Macaroni salad

on her

bagel.

I couldn’t stop laughing about it then and 40+ years later I’m still laughing about it.

I love this! Gonna make it for Easter for my friends...

Made this with a slightly smaller piece of salmon and eyeballed everything down.

Great recipe. It only used half my bottle of capers which means I have an excuse to make it again!
