This is an absolute favourite cake of mine to make ever since you first released the recipe - I've done it GF with King Arthur Flour, and with regular all-purpose, and it's excellent both times. I've also mixed milk + lemon to make a hack around buttermilk when I haven't had it handy, it's worked just as well. Love love love this recipe AND extremely stoked that one of my pics of the cake made it to THE "A Newsletter"!!!
My go-to hack for buttermilk always has been milk with a splash of vinegar, but lemon makes sense since it's the same touch of acidity. Good to know that lemon works too!
Stoked to make this. I made 3 of your dishes within 12 hours, so now I feel like I'm ready for something that takes all day to prepare! Like a dinner party for one situation. I just broke up with my fiancé, and now need something to keep me occupied while I listen to podcasts + stress clean. Also, I refuse to forgo a delicious V-day meal just because it's not being shared. Ya feel?
Have made this several times, it's always a winner! I make it in the cast iron skillet. I usually use yogurt cause I never seem to remember to buy buttermilk. But next time I'm going to buy buttermilk and then use the rest of it to brine a chicken!
We had an incident while making homemade yogurt where we accidentally boiled the milk in the slow cooker for possibly a few hours. So I think it turned into "Baked Milk"... which I read can be useful in baking. Can I substitute Baked Milk for Buttermilk here?
Cake was raw in the middle after adding 15 minutes to recipe cooking time. :( Sides pulled away, top was brown... oh well, threw it in my cast iron skillet and returning the glob to bake longer. Will I eat it later with ice cream? More than likely! 🤘🏽
Love the new video! Now excuse me while I immediately run to the grocery store to buy all of the ingredients to make this today!

This was such a joy to make! My apartment smells delightful now too! Thank your.
Anyone know how long this will keep? I wonder if its still good for like 2-3 days covered at room temp?

Yummo! In the middle of my workday I thought…why the hell not?! And boy is it delicious on this cool day here in Houston!
