Why isn't it easier to break up with a friend
and other questions about friendship, with Jay Jurden
Hello and welcome to A Newsletter! If you’ve found your way over by some miracle but are not yet subscribed, here, let me help you with that:
Hello and happy Monday.
I was away last week for my little annual trip to Maine so I skipped the usual podcast trumpeting, forgive me! It was great, it’s perfect there. I packed a small suitcase of things but wore the same elastic-waisted linen shorts (idk where from, but cheap) and striped button-down (vintage— the one I’m wearing on the cover of Sweet Enough, actually) over a bathing suit every day.
I don’t do much other than swim, cook and lay around while I’m here but my updates are as follows: I still prefer crab to lobster and swimming in warm lakes to cold oceans (but warm oceans over lakes), the antiquing has gotten pretty tough (though maybe I’m not looking hard enough— though I do feel like this is the case kind of everywhere, everything feels so picked over and grim IRL unless you’re looking online or at someones highly curated pricey brick-and-mortar…someone tell me I’m wrong), eating here is so fun because it always feels like older, classic establishments stay old and classic and the newer spots are doing some really interesting things on their own terms and I love the mix of both*, ice cream once a day is a good lifestyle and Moxie should be more popular.
*I’ll be doing a little list of my favorite spots in Maine later this week (not unlike my Paris list) for paid subscribers, if you’re interested.
Okay, back to business. On the latest episode of Solicited Advice, I’m joined by comedian, writer and utter delight Jay Jurden. This episode is heavy on the topic of FRIENDS, which comes up a lot on this show. But here we get specific, tackling the delicate situations we find ourselves in: friend breakups, the awkwardness of asking someone on a friend date at a run club and how to gracefully take (or not take) that one happy hour drink with a coworker you’d rather… not.
Listen wherever you get your podcasts (or right here):
Or, if you prefer to watch (I’m wearing a cute ribbon in this one):
For a little housekeeping:
We have one more episode left for this season and then we are on a little summer break*. We’ll see you back in the fall for a collection of some very (hopefully) helpful holiday episodes. For any questions relating to cooking, entertaining, hosting, turkey, ham, families, call 856-502-4816. It would be helpful if at the start of your message you said “holiday question!” but understand if that feels like a lot. If you’re voice shy, feel free to write in here.
These special edition holiday episodes will be ROBUST and cover everything from family dynamics to what kind of platters you should have to making a mashed potato that doesn’t have too much dairy taste good— no question too big or small, too personal or specific.
Thank you and see you tomorrow for Home Movies!
*I’m working on a book and need to focus
Any updates on that list of restaurants to visit in Maine? I've been eagerly awaiting it :)
*I’m so excited you’re working on another book!! Don’t respond! Don’t feel the need to post! Just give yourself the time and space you need!! ❤️❤️❤️
